A man has been injured in a shooting in west Belfast.

The 28-year-old victim was shot in the stomach, hand and leg and has been taken to hospital for treatment. His condition has been described as stable.

The incident, in Lenadoon Avenue, was reported to police at about 2020 BST.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information about it to get in contact with them.

SDLP MLA Alex Attwood said it was a worrying incident and which could easily have lead to a fatality.

"Nobody has the right to take this type of action against anybody in our society," he added.
