Nine men charged over Newry brawl

Nine men appeared in court in connection with the brawl

Nine men have appeared in court charged with affray following disturbances in Newry on Monday afternoon.

A brawl broke out among the men, all foreign nationals, on the Dublin Road, near the Cloughoge Roundabout.

Other charges include possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and obstructing police.

The court heard weapons held by some of the men included hatchets, daggers and a knuckle duster. Six were remanded in custody while three were given bail.

Alexander Gromov, 26, of Carnegie Court, Timor Tezamashvili, 25, of Cabra Park and Mindaugis Ravickas, 27, of The Drive, all in Dublin, were each accused of having a dagger, a walking stick containing a blade, a pocket folding knife and a hatchet.

Mr Tezamashvili and Mr Ravickas were also charged with obstructing police.

All three were remanded in custody.

Marius Dimitrovas, 29, of Whitecliff, Rathfarnham in Dublin, was charged with possessing a knuckle-duster.

He was granted bail, as was Lukas Dimitrovas, 25, of Whitecliff in Rathfarnham, Dublin, who was accused of having a knife.

Four men facing a single charge of affray were granted bail.

They were Lukas Tiskevicius, 29, of Huntstown Lawn, Dublin, Donatas Jurenas, 28, of West Park, Dublin, Tomas Lukosuis, 29, of Annvale Green in Keady, County Armagh, and Arturas Yankus, 47, of Glenview Drive, Monaghan.
