Man to face murder attempt charge

A 39-year-old man arrested by officers from the Historical Enquiries Team has been charged with attempted murder.

He was arrested as part of Operation Ballast, an investigation into a UVF gang based in the Mount Vernon area of north Belfast.

The man will appear in court in Belfast on Wednesday.

A report is to be submitted to the PPS in respect of the murder of John Harbinson and a number of other offences.

Mr Harbinson died after being handcuffed and beaten in May 1997.

Two men have appeared in court in recent months charged with his murder.
