A shot is reported to have been fired during a disturbance in Newry on Monday afternoon. Police have arrested nine people and recovered a gun after the trouble which started in the Dublin Road area of the city at about 1620 BST. One man suffered what police have said was a non-life-threatening injury to his body which was not caused by a gunshot. A number of vehicles and other items were removed from the scene. It is understood all those arrested were in their 20s and were foreign nationals. It is not known what sparked the fighting. SDLP assembly member Dominic Bradley praised the "swift action" of the police. "I have no doubt that had police not arrived in a prompt and timely fashion then someone could have been seriously injured or even worse someone could have been killed," he said.
