Hammer gang in currency robbery

police patrol

There has been an armed robbery at a financial institution in east Belfast, the police have said.

Staff were threatened by two men armed with hammers during the robbery on the Cregagh Road.

The robbers escaped with a substantial quantity of cash in various denominations. It is understood some of the cash was in Australian dollars.

None of the three female members of staff were hurt but were left badly shaken.

Police declined to identify the business saying the owners had requested its name not be released.
