Child escapes abduction attempt

A man has tried to abduct a seven-year-old girl from the garden of a house in the Banbridge area of County Down.

The man, who was driving a red four-door car, stopped outside the house on the Tullyraine Road at about 2030 BST on Thursday.

He tried to force the child into the car, but she managed to get away.

The man is described as being between 35 and 45 years old and about 5ft 10ins tall. He had dark brown spiked hair and had a piercing in his top lip.

Police have appealed for anyone with information concerning the incident to contact them.
