A man who was shot by police in County Down at the weekend has been remanded in custody charged with hijacking and making a petrol bomb. Liam Patrick Campbell, whose address was given as Magilligan Prison, was also charged with going equipped for theft and dangerous driving. The 27-year-old was also accused of driving without insurance or a licence. Mr Campbell was remanded in custody at Lisburn Magistrates Court and will appear again on 11 August. The shooting at Castleview Drive, Gilford, took place shortly after 0500 BST on Satruday. It followed an earlier incident in which a 4x4 was stolen from a house in Craigavon in County Armagh. The shooting has been referred to the Police Ombudsman, who will investigate whether the use of gunfire was justified. Mr Campbell was taken to hospital with an injury to his abdomen, which was described as not being life-threatening.
