Fire damages County Armagh pub

There has been a fire at a pub in Waringstown, County Armagh.

The Village Inn on Main Street was extensively damaged in the blaze. Three fire engines and 15 firefighters from Lurgan and Banbridge put out the fire.

Police said they are treating the fire as arson and that a sectarian motive is not a line of inquiry. The fire was reported at 0300 BST on Monday.

In June, a property adjoining the pub was destroyed after arsonists set fire to an oil tank.

UUP MLA George Savage, speaking at the scene, said: "It makes me sick to think that people would stoop to this level.

"Given the history attached to this pub - it's just sad to this happen.

"I don't know what was behind it, but this place is certainly going to sorely missed."

The Village Inn was used by a variety of community groups as a meeting place.
