Man charged with murdering nephew

The scene has been cordoned off by police
Mr Morrison was stabbed to death early on Monday

A 46-year-old man has appeared in court in Belfast charged with the murder of his nephew.

George Morrison, 29, was stabbed in the early hours of Monday as he walked along Allworthy Avenue in north Belfast.

Samuel Francis Morrison, from Duncairn Gardens, appeared in court on Thursday charged with the murder.

The accused spoke only to confirm he understood the charge against him. He was remanded in custody.

Mr Morrison was arrested after police searched two flats at Duncairn Gardens shortly after the killing.

A detective inspector told the court that while the defendant accepted responsibility for the death of his nephew, he said it was in self-defence.
