A homeless man has been murdered in north Belfast.

The man, named locally as George Morrison, 29, was found lying in Brookhill Avenue, off the Cliftonville Road, at about 0230 BST on Monday.

He had suffered a number of stab wounds. It is thought the killing is linked to a domestic dispute.

Two men, one aged 46 and the other in his 40s, have been arrested. The victim's aunt, Ann Morrison, said she could not understand why it happened.

"He used to call to my house the odd night," she said.

"He was just quiet. He was harmless, he just took a wee drink.

"People over there tried to help him, but he was bleeding to death."

North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds said the killing was "shocking".

"This incident must intensify opposition to the carrying and use of knives which too often has tragic consequences," he said.

Police have urged anyone who saw a row in the area to contact them.
