Assembly to have special debate

Stormont

There will be a special sitting of the Assembly next week to debate the finance minister's June budget statement.

The details of redistribution of unspent funds were not given to the Assembly this week and it caused a row.

Sinn Fein and other parties asked for the Assembly be recalled from its summer break for a sitting on Tuesday.

The Executive has agreed that the special meeting will go ahead.

Sinn Fein's Caral Ni Chuilin MLA said it was important that the budget matters be discussed.

"This information is crucial to the work that we all do in the Assembly and not to have the opportunity to debate the outcomes and question the effects of these decisions, given the current economic crisis and departmental shortfalls, is extremely poor practice."
