Brady in plea after arms decision

The leader of the Catholic Church in Ireland has urged all paramilitaries to give up their weapons in the wake of loyalist moves on decommissioning.

Dr Sean Brady said the news would be welcomed within the Catholic community which was the target of "so much" loyalist paramilitary violence.

The UUP leader Sir Reg Empey, SDLP leader Mark Durkan, and Alliance leader David Ford all welcomed the statements.

Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly said people would be glad "if it has occurred".
