A second swine flu case has been confirmed in the Republic, health officials have announced.

A woman who lives in the east of the country has tested positive for the virus.

She had recently returned from New York, and is receiving medical treatment at home.

Earlier this month, the Republic confirmed its first case of swine flu in a man who had recently returned from Mexico.

A short time later Northern Ireland's first case of swine flu was confirmed by the Department of Health.

It was detected in a man from the Portglenone area in County Antrim, who had also been on holiday in Mexico.
