Slugger O'Toole features Northern Ireland political comment and analysis

Prominent Northern Ireland blogger, Mick Fealty has been honoured with an international media award for promoting political dialogue.

Mr Fealty, founder of the Slugger O'Toole blog, was honoured with an International Media Council 'Peace Through Media' prize.

The council is part of the Next Century Foundation which was founded to promote dialogue in the Middle East.

Mr Fealty thanked the people who blog at Slugger O'Toole.

He said: "If Slugger has played a role in helping to secure open dialogue in Northern Ireland, it is down to the host of committed bloggers and commenters of all shades of opinion who continue to engage competitively (and mostly) civilly over the issues of the day.

"Learning to speak bluntly, but civilly with opponents whose opinion we despise, is the first stage in building a vibrant and durable democracy."

Other winners included the BBC's Mark Urban and Paul Staines who blogs as Guido Fawkes.
