Bel Tel earns £9m from government

The Belfast Telegraph earned more than £9m in government advertising over three years, figures have revealed.

Ulster Unionist assembly member Sam Gardiner asked the Office of First and Deputy First Ministers how much NI newspapers made from advertisements.

The News Letter got more than £1.9m in revenue, while the Irish News received about £1.8m.

Local weekly newspapers as a whole made more than £5.8m between 2005-08.

The Department of Health spent the most, about £6.5m, on advertising across all the newspapers over the three years.
