A car has been set on fire and several others damaged in Newry.

It happened in the Barcroft Park area of the city at about 0400 BST on Sunday.

The five other cars had their windscreens smashed and paintwork scored, according to a police spokeswoman.

"The people who did this came from the area, they weren't outsiders - the people are telling me," said SDLP councillor John McArdle.

"There's people there out earning a wage, trying to keep their families and keep a roof above their head, and these are the people who are suffering."
