A substantial sum of money, understood to be around £600,000, has been stolen in an armed robbery of a cash-in transit van in County Tyrone.

Three armed and masked men threatened and tied up three cash security guards at Mullinahoe Road in Ardboe at about 1830 BST on Monday.

The guards were about to deliver money to a cash machine at a convenience store when the robbery took place.

None of the cash van guards was injured, although they were shocked.

The robbers are believed to have used two vehicles which were later found burnt out.

One was a blue Ford Transit van, registration number WDZ 1949, with a flooring company's name in yellow letters on the side.

The second vehicle, a red Rover car, had the registration number TAZ 2296.
