Ms Gill said the time was right for her to move on

The Consumer Council's chief executive Eleanor Gill is to step down after six years in charge.

Ms Gill has been a familiar face on Northern Ireland news programmes in recent years as spokesperson for the independent consumer body.

She is leaving to set up her own consulting business. "Now more than ever, consumers have been placed centre stage," she said.

"I have decided that the time is right for me to move on to new challenges."

Consumer Council chairman Rick Hill said: "Naturally we are deeply disappointed to be losing such an effective leader and brilliant consumer champion, but we understand her wish to move on after six years."
