Teen in hospital after stabbing

A number of cars were also damaged in the area

An 18-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed a number of times in Ballynahinch, County Down.

The attack happened at a house in Windmill Park, shortly after 0400 GMT on Sunday.

The man was taken to hospital with injuries which are serious but not life-threatening.

Police are trying to establish if the stabbing is connected to a number of incidents in Windmill Gardens and Windmill Park on Saturday night.

A group of young people, at least one of whom was armed with a baseball bat, smashed the windows of property including three houses, three cars and a van.

They also tried to enter a number of houses.

Two males in their late teens were arrested, but were later released pending further inquiries.

Sinn Fein councillor Michael Coogan, who lives nearby, said there had been problems in the area.

"It is an ongoing problem and I have raised this issue," he said.

"I saw at least three houses with windows boarded up and there was damage to the doors I saw about eight or 10 cars that were badly damaged as well, and this is right throughout the estate."
