Stabbed man 'seriously injured'

Stabbing scene
The man was stabbed in the abdomen

A man has been stabbed in the Oldpark area of north Belfast.

He was with a friend when they were approached by a man on Ladbrook Drive, close to the junction with Berwick Street, at about 0120 GMT on Friday.

A conversation took place and the victim was stabbed from behind in the abdomen. He was taken to hospital.

His injuries, while serious, are not thought to be life threatening. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

The attacker was described as being 5ft 4ins tall, with black hair and wearing black jeans.

North Belfast Alliance representative Gerry Lynch condemned the attack.

"This was a sickening attack and the perpetrator must be taken off our streets as quickly as possible," he said.

"The attacker is obviously a very dangerous individual and I would call on anyone with information on the incident to contact police immediately."
