A man has described the trauma felt by his family when armed men broke into their home on Thursday morning.

Two men, armed with hurling sticks, forced their way into the house in Dunmurry at about 0830 GMT.

The householder, who does not want to be named, was woken by the sound of breaking glass.

"I saw a guy, masked, with a hurling stick, threatening me that if I came down the stairs he would kill me," said the householder.

"My two sons were then awake and they went down to confront them and they were threatened too. The racket and the noise of them was just frightening."

The robbers took the keys to a silver Toyota Avensis car. The car was stolen and has not yet been recovered.

The first robber is described as around 5ft 8in and aged in his mid-20s.

He was wearing a dark tracksuit, a dark hooded top and a brown scarf.

The second robber is described as 5ft 10in tall, of thin build and aged in his mid-20s to early 30s.

He had short, brown hair and was wearing a black coat and gloves.

The police said a third man is also thought to have been involved but did not enter the house.
