A teenager has been stabbed on the outskirts of west Belfast.

The 17-year-old was attacked by a gang of men at Woodside View in Poleglass shortly before 0200 GMT on Saturday.

He was subsequently treated in hospital for a stab wound to the back. Councillor Brian Heading condemned the early morning attack.

"In the mouth of Christmas, a family which should be enjoying itself is faced with the horror of a stabbing," said the SDLP representative.

"It is perhaps too much to hope that the people responsible will pull themselves together, walk down to the nearest PSNI station and hand themselves and their knives in."

Police have appealed to anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
