Three people killed in accidents

One man died in a two-car crash in Limavady on Friday night

Two men and a woman have died after separate road accidents on Friday.

In County Antrim, a man died after being hit by a car near Templepatrick. It happened on the Connor Road in Parkgate village at about 1845 GMT.

Three cars were involved in a collision on the Forkhill Road near Newry at about 2115 GMT in which a woman died. Another woman suffered minor injuries.

And a man was killed in a two-car crash in Limavady at about 2230 GMT. It happened on the Ballykelly Road.

The driver of the other car was taken to hospital.

One man has been arrested over the County Antrim accident.

The woman killed in the crash near Newry, was 45-year-old Teresa McGovern who was from the area. The names of the other two victims have not yet been released.

Speaking after the three fatal accidents, PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Roy Toner said: "The number of deaths on our roads this weekend is tragic and we extend our sympathies to the families and friends of the three people who have lost their lives.

"Words will never fully express the hurt and anguish of the families who have been left bereaved following these road traffic collisions."

Meanwhile, a female pedestrian has been taken to hospital with injuries after she was hit by a vehicle in north Belfast.

It happened on the Crumlin Road at about 2240 GMT on Friday.
