Prayers offered for road victims

St Anne's Cathedral
Representatives from the four main churches will be involved

A church service for victims of road crashes has been held at St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast.

Dean of Belfast Dr Houston McKelvey led the inter-denominational service, held every year in different churches across Northern Ireland.

The service marked the World Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, and prayers were dedicated to the safety of road users.

So far this year, 90 people have been killed on Northern Ireland's roads.

Six people have died in road accidents this month.

Assisting with the service were the Reverend William Davison of the Methodist Church, Very Reverend Dr Samuel Hutchinson of the Presbyterian Church and Father Colin Grant, representing Bishop Noel Treanor, Catholic Bishop of Down and Connor.

Organised by the charity Roadpeace, the day of remembrance has taken place annually on the third Sunday in November since 1993.
