Buses stop for dead teen tribute

Photographs displayed at funeral
Mourners packed Our Lady Queen of Peace Church

The funeral has taken place of Ciara Park, the 16-year-old girl who died after being knocked down by a bus in Belfast city centre on Tuesday.

The Dunmurry teenager was struck by a bus on Royal Avenue at about 1700 GMT.

As a mark of respect, bus services in the city were halted for a minute at 1000 GMT on Saturday as the funeral service got under way.

A packed congregation heard prayers for the Park family, the driver and those who came to Ciara's aid.

Fr Brendan Hickland told mourners at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church that he hoped "this concentrated focus over the past week will prevent any further accidents, so that others will not have to endure the trauma and heartache that Ciara's family and friends are now suffering".

At the church, fellow pupils from St Dominic's High School provided a guard of honour as the funeral cortege left the church for burial.
