Police on routine patrol in Strabane have come under attack from youths throwing petrol bombs.

It happened in the Fountain Street area of the County Tyrone town at about 2100 GMT on Friday.

A police spokeswoman said at least two petrol bombs were thrown as well as stones and "other missiles".

No-one was injured, but two police vehicles were damaged."The area's been saturated by the PSNI in the last week," said Councillor Jarlath McNulty.

"They've launched what I can only describe as an extreme, over the top measure of stopping and searching young people."

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
