Jail for child porn radiographer

Court
Ivor Gilfilllan downloaded 26,000 images

A radiographer at Altnagelvin hospital in Londonderry who downloaded 26,000 indecent images of children has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Ivor Gilfillan, 53, of Burnally Road, Limavady, pleaded guilty to 50 specimen charges.

The images included the abuse of very young children and infants.

Gilfillan, who was also sentenced to three years probation, will be released within a few weeks because of the time he spent in custody.

The prosecution said despite his early guilty plea this was one of the most serious cases of its kind.

The images were of real children being abused and were not computer generated.

A defence lawyer said the offences "were sordid and despicable".

Gilfillan had not taken any photographs but had downloaded and distributed the images with other like-minded people on the internet.
