Radio Ulster wins industry awards

Stephen Nolan was named speech broadcaster of the year

BBC Radio Ulster has won five gold awards at the Phonographic Performance Ireland Awards, including the regional station of the year.

Stephen Nolan won speech broadcaster of the year, while Kevin Magee was named News Reporter of the Year.

Across the Line won the new Irish music programme, while documentary A Beautiful Day won the Music Special category.

Susan Lovell, Head of BBC Radio Ulster, said it was an exceptional achievement.

"We've been competing with the very best radio stations throughout Ireland - some of the biggest names in broadcasting and some of the best programmes you'll find anywhere in the world," she said.
