Teacher jailed over child images

Scales of justice

A Belfast teacher who admitted downloading more than 500 images of children being sexually abused has been jailed for 15 months.

The judge said 36-year-old Neill George Morrow, from Orangefield Parade, would "never be able to teach again".

The images were found on two laptop computers which were seized at his home last November.

Morrow, who appeared at Belfast Crown Court, has also been placed on the sex offenders' register for seven years.

A prosecuting lawyer told the court that when the computers were examined, police uncovered a total of 509 images which Morrow had viewed and deleted but were found on "unallocated space".

The court heard Morrow initially denied viewing the images, or visiting file-sharing platforms on the internet, but later pleaded guilty to 16 charges of making indecent images of children on dates between June and October 2006.

Morrow's lawyer said his client had originally been looking for adult pornography when he came across the indecent images of children, but had "gone back and viewed them again".
