A 35-year-old man is to appear in court later in connection with a car accident in which a father of three was killed.

Michael Molloy, 36, from Downpatrick died in the two-car crash on the Ardglass Road outside the town on Saturday night.

He was travelling with his partner and three children, aged six, four and one. They are in a stable condition in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.

The man is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates Court.

Councillor Liam Johnston, who grew up with the victim, said he was a "very genuine, honest, decent family man".

He said the family was in Ardglass because Mr Molloy wanted to bring the children to the harbour to look at the boats, on the way home from shopping in Lisburn.

"Mickey never went anywhere without his children, even down to the local shops, there was always Mickey and Emma and the children.

"The whole area is devastated by the news"
