Alert as bomb note found on plane

The security alert began on an Aer Lingus plane at Dublin airport

A major security alert got under way at Dublin Airport on Saturday after a note was found on a plane warning of a bomb on board.

The Aer Lingus transatlantic flight travelling from New York to Dublin landed at Dublin Airport at 0930 BST.

One of the crew members on the flight reported finding a paper towel in the toilet of the plane, with a note on it saying there was a bomb on board.

Gardaí cordoned off the plane and interviewed crew and passengers.

There were 221 people travelling on the flight.

Gardaí from Dublin Airport and the Dogs Unit took part in the operation which ended at about lunchtime.

The plane has been handed back to the Dublin Airport Authority and Irish police said the matter was under investigation.
