Man shot after gang enters home

Police car/tape

A man has been taken to hospital after being shot in both legs on the outskirts of west Belfast.

It is believed up to four men entered the man's home in the Laburnum Row area of Twinbrook shortly before 2230 BST on Tuesday.

They then proceeded to assault the man before shooting him.

His condition is not known, however, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Police have not ruled out a possible paramilitary connection.

SDLP assembly member Alex Attwood condemned the attack.

"Whatever this was about or whatever issues face the community, attacks of this nature are not justifiable," he said.

"I would appeal to the local community to send out a clear message to those responsible that they have absolutely no support and they must not let this type of behaviour get any sort of foothold."
