NI prison ombudsman is announced

Appointment followed review of safety at Maghaberry
The new prisoner ombudsman is Pauline McCabe

The new Prisoner Ombudsman for Northern Ireland is Pauline McCabe.

She takes over from Brian Coulter, the first person to hold the post, who was appointed in 2005.

Mrs McCabe, a business consultant who built up her own company, was a member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board for six years.

Policing and Justice Minister Paul Goggins said it was a challenging and vital role to which Mrs McCabe brought "vast experience".

"I am delighted to appoint Pauline McCabe to this important position," he said.

"I am confident that Pauline will bring her vast experience of public and private sectors to the role and build on the work of her predecessor, Brian Coulter.
