Rape accused councillor gets bail

scales

A unionist councillor charged with rape has been freed on bail after FAIR victims' campaigner Willie Frazer put up bail money for his release.

Prosecutors said William Wilkinson, from Portglenone, was arrested on Thursday after a 999 call from a woman.

Mr Wilkinson, a full-time worker with FAIR, denies rape and attempted rape.

He left the DUP after the party's decision to share power with Sinn Fein and is now a member of the Traditional Unionist Voice.

Mr Wilkinson is also a member of the United Ulster Unionist Coalition.

FAIR leader Willie Frazer told the High Court he was prepared to act as a surety.
