Driver on attempted murder charge

Court

A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a police officer by driving a car at him.

Dominic Bond from Rathmore Drive, Newtownabbey, also faced six driving charges including dangerous driving and driving while under the influence.

The incident happened at Doagh Road, Ballyclare, in Newtownabbey on Sunday.

At Belfast Magistrates Court, Mr Bond's solicitor said the attempted murder charge was too severe. Mr Bond was remanded in custody until 15 September.

In court on Monday, the solicitor questioned a police witness about a statement in the sergeant's report which said that the car had swerved around the police officer.

However, the witness said she believed the reference to swerving was "a clerical error".
