Seven nurses have been suspended

Seven nurses have been suspended from an old people's home in Antrim, the BBC has learned.

An inspection body said the Orchard Manor home was under investigation and is currently in breach of some regulations.

The home, run by the Southern Cross Healthcare group, said seven residents have been taken to Antrim Hospital in the last five weeks.

Southern Cross has said that this is not unusual for a care home.

They said two of those residents have since died from natural causes.

The Northern Health Trust - who run Antrim Hospital - said that the seven residents were admitted with a range of medical conditions.

However, it has been claimed some of them were de-hydrated. Southern Cross said they have suspended seven members of the home's nursing staff.

The watchdog body the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority said their investigation into the home is continuing.

On 7 July they issued a notice to the home that it did not meet Nursing Home regulations. They said they expected it to comply with these by 8 August.

The Orchard Manor Care Home is under investigation
