Tanker stolen during oil delivery

Police tape

An oil tanker lorry has been stolen while making a delivery in west Belfast.

It happened at Hawthorn Street at about 1000 BST on Saturday when a man, thought to be in his 20s, got into the yellow vehicle and drove off.

A car parked in the street was badly damaged as the thief made off, a PSNI spokeswoman said.

The lorry was found abandoned, with its load still on board, in the Ballymurphy area a short time later.

The thief is described as having a tanned complexion and a shaved head.

He was wearing a red t-shirt and dark coloured tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone who has information about the theft is asked to contact their nearest police station.
