Oil spill in pond kills six swans

Animal charity USPCA fears two surviving swans may not be saved

Six swans have been killed in an oil pollution incident in Carrickfergus.

A number of young ducks which are usually found at the pond beside Carrick Leisure Centre are missing.

USPCA spokesman David Wilson said two more swans had been found alive but he feared their injuries may be too severe.

"The trouble is they have ingested a lot of oil. They will be brought to vets but the damage was already done before we got there," he said.
