Woman, 21, killed in car accident

Crash scene
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash

A 21-year-old woman has been killed in a car crash near Armagh.

The woman was driving on the Hamiltonsbawn Road shortly before 0900 BST on Thursday when her car was in collision with another vehicle.

The driver of that car was treated in hospital, but it is understood he was not seriously injured.

It is believed the dead woman's immediate family were on holiday at the time, and had to be told of the accident on the telephone.

The road was closed for much of the day. Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them.

So far this year, 58 people killed have been killed on Northern Ireland's roads. Nine of those deaths have been in the past 10 days.
