Stamps honour Irish film stars

Stamps depicting some of Ireland's best known actors are on sale in the Republic.

Designed to look like a reel of film, the series, issued by An Post, celebrates Irish box office hits.

This is the second set of stamps to be based on cinema, after 100 years of filming was marked in 1996.

Cillian Murphy is pictured in The Wind that Shakes the Barley on the 82c stamp.

Colm Meaney appears on a 55c stamp for his role in the film Kings.

Brid Ni Neachtáin is shown on the appears on a 55c starring in Cre na Cille.

Pat Shortt features on an 82c denomination stamp in his role in Garage.

Mr Shortt said: "This is a great honour for the film industry in Ireland and in particular a wonderful recognition of Garage.

"My brothers and myself collected stamps as children and I am really delighted appear on my own stamp now!" he said.
