Orange hall is damaged in attack

Police tape

An Orange hall in County Londonderry has been attacked for the third time in six months.

A gas cylinder was thrown through the window of a flat at the back of the hall at New Road in Kilrea at about 0430 BST on Thursday.

A masked man fled from the scene after he was confronted by a caretaker.

The attack has been condemned by both nationalist and unionist representatives in the area.

SDLP Assembly member John Dallat said such incidents would not be tolerated.

"We need to send a clear signal to these people, not only that they will not succeed, but that they will pay a high price," he said.

Police have appealed for anyone who might have seen a car leaving the scene, or has any other information, to contact detectives in Coleraine.
