Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery

Two masked men armed with iron bars attempted to rob an off licence in Londonderry on Friday.

As two members of staff were locking up the Racecourse Road premises just before midnight, two masked men approached.

They threatened them and demanded money. But one of the staff members ran into a local bar and raised the alarm.

The would-be thieves ran off empty handed in the direction of Carnhill. Police have appealed for information.
