Boy charged over birthday trouble

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with riotous behaviour following a disturbance at a 17th birthday party in Londonderry.

Trouble broke out at the party at a house in the Carnhill area on Friday night. Officers who went to the scene were attacked with stones and bottles.

The boy is to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court later this month

SDLP Councillor Mary Bradley, who lives in the area, said parents must keep a closer eye on their children.

"What concerned me greatly was the age of some of those young people - their parents have got to take responsibility for these young people. There's some of them going to get themselves killed," said Councillor Bradley.

"And if they only do it for the love of the children, if they don't do it for anything else, they'll at least maybe be keeping them from getting killed."
