Five killed in road crashes

Five people were killed in separate accidents in Northern Ireland on Saturday.

In Newtownabbey, County Antrim, the driver of a car died when it crashed off the M2 motorway near Ballycraigy Bridge at Sandyknowes at 2000 BST, plunging down onto Ballycraigy Road South.

Also in County Antrim a man in his 30s died when his car hit banking near Rasharkin village shortly after 2000 BST.

In Belfast 39-year-old Raymond Boyd-McDowell died in hospital from injuries he received when he was struck by a Volvo car near his home on the Upper Newtownards Road in Belfast at 2300 BST.

Brothers killed in crash

The crashes followed a road accident in County Fermanagh early on Saturday morning which claimed the lives of twin brothers, Nigel and Neville Stronge.

The men, who were 28, died when a car they were travelling in crashed into a bridge in Clabby village at around 0200 BST on Saturday.

The two men were from the village where the accident took place.

A man and woman who were also in the car are being treated for serious injuries.
