Nuala O'Faolain died after a battle with cancer

Writer and journalist Nuala O'Faolain has died after a battle with cancer.

The 68-year-old died peacefully at the Blackrock Hospice in Dublin on Friday night.

She became internationally well-known for her two volumes of memoirs, Are You Somebody? and Almost There. She also wrote a novel, My Dream of You.

O'Faolain, who previously worked for the BBC and RTE, was educated at University College Dublin, University of Hull and Oxford University.

In 1985, she won a Jacob's Award as producer of the RTE programme, Plain Times.
