A man standing trial for killing two teenagers eight years ago is to give evidence against his co-accused.

David McIlwaine, 18 and Andrew Robb, 19, were stabbed in Tandragee in 2000.

Mark Burcombe, 27, of Ballynahinch Road in Lisburn, will testify against Steven Brown, 27, from Castle Place in Castlecaulfield, the court heard.

David McIlwaine's father Paul reacted angrily to the news, shouting from the public gallery: "I object strongly to any deal being done."

A prosecution lawyer told Belfast Crown Court that Burcombe would give a witness statement at a "covert location" in the next two weeks.

She said that after this, they would apply for Mr Burcombe to be charged with an additional offence.

Speaking outside the court, Mr McIlwaine said he had been informed on Friday by the PSNI that the additional charge in question would be one of grievous bodily harm with intent.

"I am absolutely disgusted. Nobody approached us about this, there has been no consultation with us," he said.

"There shouldn't be any deal done for Burcombe - I'm absolutely fuming. I am sick to my stomach."

Andrew Robb's mother, Ann, burst into tears when the court heard of the development.

Mr Robb was 19 and Mr McIwaine was 18 when they were stabbed after leaving a disco in Tandragee in February 2000.

Their bodies were found on a road outside the village.
