Police attacked at raid arrests

Police tape

Police have been attacked as they arrested two people following an armed robbery in County Armagh.

A crowd of people threw stones, bottles and other missiles in Lurgan on Saturday. No one was injured.

Two masked men with handguns entered a shop at Taghnevan Walk at 2000 BST and forced staff to hand over cash and cigarettes. They ran off.

Two males, aged 17 and 23, were later arrested and two imitation handguns and stolen property recovered.

During the arrests, a crowd attacked police officers.

Detectives at Lurgan are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They particularly want to hear from at least four customers who were in the shop at the time.

They also want to hear from a motorist who stopped to talk to police at Tandragee Road at about 2015 BST.
