Police investigating dissident republican activity in County Donegal have discovered bomb-making equipment in a wooded area.

It was found at Mongorry Wood, an isolated area near Raphoe on Thursday. Searches in the area are continuing.

Gardaí have refused to give any details about the items, which have been taken to Letterkenny for examination.

Meanwhile, gardaí have been given a further 24 hours to question three Tyrone men about dissident activity.

This includes the murder of Strabane man Andrew Burns.

The men were arrested in Donegal on Tuesday. Mr Burns was shot dead in February.

Mr Burns was found near a church in the border village of Doneyloop, Donegal.

The PSNI has been working closely with the Garda in the murder investigation.
