Four men have appeared in court in Dublin charged in connection with dissident republican activity.

The men, all from Londonderry, appeared at the Special Criminal Court.

Michael Gallagher, 27, of Sackville Court and Martin Francis O'Neill, of Colmcille Court, were remanded in custody.

Gary Donnelly, 37, of Kildrum Gardens and Patrick John McDaid, 38, of Marlborough Street will also appear again in court next Tuesday.

They are charged with membership of an unlawful organisation.

A garda officer told the court that when cautioned, Mr Gallagher and Mr McDaid denied membership of an illegal organisation, while Mr Donnelly and Mr O'Neill made no reply.

All four were arrested in an operation by gardai on Saturday.
