A gang of youths, one armed with a knife, another with a sword, have attacked a 15-year-old boy in Newry.

The teenager was at a footbridge near the Buttercrane shopping centre on Monday evening at 2000 GMT when he was set upon by up to six youths.

He suffered broken bones in both his hands in what police believe was an unprovoked attack.

Police believe the attackers were armed with a knife and, possibly, a samurai sword, although the boy wasn't stabbed.
